By A Hair Review: Greek Mythology, Soul Ties & the Invisible String Theory | Brooklyn Film Festival
A short film about meeting someone you feel you've met before.
By A Hair tells the story of two New Yorkers, Sean and Inez, navigating modern-day dating and repeatedly crossing paths, but barely missing each other each time.
Being a single adult living in New York City is… different, and writer-director Anthony Prince Leslie captures the anomalous dating experience from a new, multiverse-esque perspective.
The story of Sean and Inez’s love is introduced by a steamy, intimate Netflix & Chill chat that leaves the audience clinging to every word that departs from their lips. They’re discussing the myth of soulmates in Greek mythology to solve the mystery of their fate.
For each scene that exemplifies their passionate, romantic conversation, a scene from a world where they don’t know each other follows, playing into the invisible string theory and parallel timeline theory all at once.
Throughout the film’s ten-minute runtime, the viewer is unsure how they met, and for a few moments, it feels like Sean and Inez are too.
Ultimately, that question needs no answer because they are destined to meet in every timeline.
As an optimist and a romantic, I know how discouraging dating can be, especially in a city like New York, where options seem endless. As a Brooklyn-born 90's baby and a sucker for love, l'm committed to creating nuanced depictions of the city I love, telling familiar yet eye-opening stories. — Anthony Prince Leslie
